Trace the Origin
Glove puppetry is also called the hand puppet theater. It is originated from the local opera performed by puppets in Quanzhou, Fujian in the 17th century. The head of the puppet is carved hollow wood. During the performance, masters control the puppets by inserting their hands into the clothes of puppets. In the early stage, puppets in such performances looked like “cloth bags,” so the performance was called glove puppetry.
The immigration in the middle Qing dynasty brought glove puppetry from Fujian to Taiwan. Masters controlled puppets vividly as if they were real people. The performance also featured the single narrator who played the roles with various tones, such as Sheng character(male character), Dan character(female character), Jing character(painted-face character), Mo character(elder character), Chou character(clown character), and Miscellaneous characters. The contents include Chinese customs, historical stories, legends, and romance. Audiences were enchanted and touched by the plots.
The local opera, glove puppetry, began spreading since the national treasure in Taiwan, Master Huang Hai-Dai set up “Wu Zhou Yuan.” He led traditional glove puppetry to the first climax in Taiwan. His son, Huang Chun-Hsiung, inherited his career and brought glove puppetry to television. As time went by, Huang Qiang-Hua and Huang Wen-Ze, brothers, President and Vice President of Pili International Multimedia. April 29 Pili Puppet Theater successfully challenged the Guinness World Record for the “Longest Puppet TV Show, opening a new chapter for the creative cultural industry and drama history of Taiwan.
The “Pili Fantasy World of Puppet Art” was grandly held at Exhibition Hall 1, CKS Memorial Hall. In this exhibition, the scenes of the Pili Studio were the core of the display. Accompanied by hi-tech media as presentation means, it led audiences to enter the whole new sensual experience of the Pili world of fantasy created by the interaction between reality and virtual reality.
Thunderbolt Fantasy 2 was officially released on October 1 in three different major regions in Asia. In Taiwan, it was broadcast on iQIYI (Taiwan). In Japan, it was released on “Tokyo MX – Tokyo Metropolitan Television.” In Mainland China, it was broadcast on Youku.
The first crossover collaboration was conducted between Pili and Heaven M. Su Huan-jen acted at the image speaker of the hardcore and whole new profession in “Heaven M” – The unbeatable “Dark Hero.”
